Best Spots to enjoy a Workcation in Savannah Georgia

By July 13, 2017November 20th, 20183 Comments

Last month I was lucky enough to experience a taste of southern charm in Savannah Georgia. This trip was not all play, certainly not a disconnected stay. This trip is best described as a workcation; part fun in the sun, part dialing into calls from the local cafe. One of the best perks of my full time gig is the flexibility I have to work from anywhere. You better believe I make a point of taking advantage of it! If you happen to find yourself in Savannah and in need of high speed wifi, check out these spots:

Stay at B Historic for a modern twist in Savannah!

The most important factor you need to consider on a workcation is the quality of your accommodation. When I travel, I tend to be thrifty in this department. This allows for the bulk of the budget to go towards, you guessed it, food and shopping. Priorities people. However, when you need the ability to work from anywhere, finding a comfortable room to lay your head and collaborate virtually is critical. In Savannah, B Historic provided everything required of remote work, with a twist of modern charm.

Plenty of comfortable and stylish seating my B Historic workcation!

Located just a fifteen minute walk from the river, B Historic is a quiet oasis in the heart of the historic district. Location is critical during a short stay, never mind one that requires cracking open your laptop. Arriving from Boston at the crack of dawn equated to my room not being ready. However the concierge was kind enough to offer me one of the empty conference rooms to take my morning calls.

This hotel offers modern flair in a town known for bed and breakfasts. The stunning decor, fully stocked bar, and plethora of comfy couches help you relax on a workcation. The suite included a mini-fridge and plenty of space to accomplish a few tasks before heading out for the day. If fitness is your thing, this hotel includes use of a fitness center and indoor pool. My preference is to get that cardio in the great outdoors, so off I went!

Cafes, the Mobile Office for the Remote Workforce

Full disclosure; if I had the choice between cranking through a presentation or seeking adventure, adventure wins every time. But the reality is, girl has got to pay her bills. Although I could not disconnect entirely during my time in Savannah, I did find quite a few delightful spots to set up shop.

Please note that when traveling it’s my personal policy to avoid any and all chains. No Starbucks allowed! Travel is about stepping out of your pumpkin spice comfort zone. Have no fear Starbucks, I’ve been a gold member since 2008. I only consume your beverages in the 617 area code. Below are a few of my favorite spots in the historic district:

Savannah Coffee Roasters

215 W Liberty St
Savannah, GA 31401

Located just a block away from B Historic, this cafe has plenty of comfy loungers and tables to spend an afternoon. Owned and operated by veterans, this establishment has been perfecting the art of coffee (and quiche) for over 100 years.

Mirabelle Cafe

313 Abercorn Street
Savannah, GA 31401, USA

This charming french themed cafe is located just across the street from the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. I sure made a point of doing some sightseeing inside of the breathtaking church before getting to work. You can also take in the scenery by taking from Mirabelle’s vantage point, offering outdoor seating. Just keep in mind that Savannah in June is quite humid!

Delicious waffles are served here with with a southern twist. I found the lemon creme curd on top of the Southern Belle Waffle delicious. I barely could put my fork down.

The Coffee Fox

Savannah, GA 31401

Merchandise at The Coffee Fox is super cute!

Sister cafe to Savannah’s famous Foxy Loxy Cafe, the Coffee Fox offers caffeine fiends a cool hipster vibe in the heart of the city. This cafe brews local roaster Perc coffee, and the aroma wafts throughout the space. Admittedly I did not end up working here, but I did order a cheese plate and dined alfresco in Wright Square. The cold brew helped me to perc up and head back out on the town.

The Gallery Expresso

234 Bull St
Savannah, GA 31401

The Gallery Expresso is just a stone’s throw away from the famous ‘life is like a box of chocolates’ Forrest Gump scene in Chippewa Square. From the crowds gathering inside and out, this appeared to be a local favorite. Popular among the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) students, one of the highlights of this cafe is the gallery featuring local artists. After a long day of exploring, stop by late night for a glass of wine before heading to bed.

I’m a firm believer travel is all about new experiences, working remotely is just part of the that fabric. Where will you workcation this summer?
