Perfect weather makes for ideal golfing conditions. The game of golf can be a wonderful activity to bond with your child over because of its patient and interactive nature. If you’ve thought about bringing your older child or teen out to the links, why not consider the tropical island of Puerto Rico? Not only does the area offer premier courses, there’s also oodles of other activities to occupy energetic kids, such as rainforests, bioluminescent kayaking, snorkeling, and local tours.

Many of these courses and resorts are within a day’s trip from cheap hotels in San Juan, fit for any budget. However, you can also reserve rooms at these high-end places if you’d like to indulge your family. Have a little bit of both and round out a great Puerto Rican vacation.

El Conquistador Resort

The El Conquistador Resort can be a great family-friendly base to stay at which also has a fantastic course to play. There is everything from a private beach island to a water park that will delight kids in-between golfing excursions, in addition to several dining and snack options onsite. The rolling and scenic course is marked with beginner tee off stops to cater to newcomers. If your kiddo is new to the game, she can take a lesson from a PGA Instructor or try her hand at the state-of-the-art driving range to get in some practice swings. As a reward, stop by the pro shop for all the equipment and attire you could need to feel like a pro.

Wyndham Rio Mar Beach Resort and Spa

There are two courses to love at the Wyndham Rio Mar Beach Resort and Spa, so you and your kid can decide which is the favorite. One runs along the ocean for dramatic water views, while the other, a little more technical, follows the greenery and river. There are options for private lessons and time spent at the driving range putting and chipping shots. To end the day, bring the whole family to the welcoming Iguana Pub for authentic Puerto Rican cuisine and traditional pub-style favorites. If you choose to stay there, hit the tennis courts or have a fun and casual salsa lesson by one of the pros on site. Then, retire to your plush and spacious room, many of which overlook the aquamarine ocean.

The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort

A little more upscale but just as welcoming, the St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort is a true indulgence for families. There’s a fantastic Iguana Club for the little ones to enjoy for a half day or full day, as well as an all-inclusive meal plan to win over picky eaters. Children are also invited to try out the world-class golf course. It has been honored as a wildlife sanctuary by the Audubon International Organization, which offers insight to its beautiful scenery and aesthetics.

All of these wonderful resorts are a quick drive from the downtown area. So you can admire the beautiful, historical capital city, then venture out to hit the links with your child to round out an unforgettable Puerto Rico getaway.
