Chicago skyline

Whether you live in the city or out in the country, teens love family vacations to sprawling urban areas. The city of Chicago possesses a certain magic with its beautifully-constructed skyline, perfectly-manicured parks and nearby beaches. As locals rush to work or school, teens will get swept up in the hustle and bustle of big city life—and it’s not hard to understand why. Chicago is filled with endless activities to captivate the whole family.

Getting There

Whether you fly into O’Hare or Midway, you will be a ways away from the Downtown area. Chicago has a fantastic transit system—the CTA—with stations inside both airports. Hopping on a train might appeal to your teen, but the trip takes a good 45 minutes to an hour. Once you arrive, you may still need to take a bus or walk, depending on where you’re staying. With suitcases in tow, the hassle may be more than its worth.

An alternative is Echo Limousine, a Chicago-based company that will go above and beyond to ensure you are taken care of, safely delivering your family and your luggage in front of your hotel. Your teen will be thrilled to travel in style, especially if it’s his or her first time in a limo. In addition to limousines, the company has town cars and luxury SUVs, and you can choose from curbside pick-up or meet-and-greet airport service.

Exploring the City

Chicago is filled with unique places for teens to explore. Although animal lovers will enjoy the Lincoln Park Zoo, the Shedd Aquarium offers actual encounters with marine animals. Choose from either the Beluga Encounter or the Penguin Encounter to learn about the creatures while interacting with them. They also offer a Trainer for a Day program that allows teens (and adults!) to shadow a trainer and witness firsthand how the aquarium cares for belugas, dolphins, sea otters, sea lions and penguins.

The Chicago Theatre is a great place to watch a concert. For teens that would rather relax and soak up the sun, head to the Lake Michigan shoreline. North Avenue Beach on the north side of Chicago is one of the most popular beaches in the area, with plenty of space to swim and sunbathe. Rev up your family vacation with a friendly game on one of the beach’s volleyball courts. You can also go for a walk on a path along the lake.

On North Michigan Avenue, you will find Magnificent Mile, a teen paradise for shopping. One major attraction is Water Tower Place, a massive shopping mall filled with stores like Macy’s, Wet Seal, Free People, Coach and American Eagle Outfitters. Further down Magnificent Mile you will find stores like Forever 21 and the Apple Store.

A Night on the Town

While in Chicago, take in the nightlife with the help of Echo Limousine’s additional services. Leave the teens at the hotel for a pizza and movie night while you and your partner enjoy a romantic dinner downtown. Or, if you’d rather, make it a family affair to remember and bring the kids along. Take a trip to the iconic Chicago Theatre for a concert or stand-up comedy show or see a popular Broadway show for cheaper than in New York. Teens will love the chance to feel fancy and create lasting family memories.
